We mourn the loss of our member Günter Radons. He passed away unexpectedly on 20.07.2024 at the age of 70. We have lost a highly esteemed colleague, researcher and friend. Our sincere condolences go out to his family.
From 2000 until 2019, he has been heading a professorship for Theoretical Physics at TU Chemnitz. After his retirement, he remained active in research and continued to lead a research group with several third-party funded projects.
His scientific work was dedicated to the statistical physics and non-linear dynamics of complex systems, being interested in both the theoretical foundations and the applications to specific engineering problems. He himself described this broad spectrum as application-oriented basic research.
Günter Radons established an outstanding network of scientific cooperation with numerous partners, which he constantly maintained and extended. An extraordinary number of his papers have been published in Physical Review Letters, the most renowned journal in physics, and in 2019 he was honored by the American Physical Society as an “Outstanding Referee” for his many years of service as an honorary expert reviewer.
